Tantric Sex

The term tantric sex is often misunderstood. In Tantra, love-making is used to bring together two loving partners in a union of mind, body and soul.

One essential element of Tantra is taking time. In tantra, love-making is done without ego, with each partner learning to accept and receive.  The methods learned and used in Tantric sex provide sensations and sexual pleasure that are far more intense and complex than just a simple orgasm at genital level. In Tantric sex, the orgasm is simply a by-product of the connectedness we feel with our partner and can span throughout the entire body.

To practice tantric love-making you should begin by creating an environment that is free from distractions, is safe from interruptions, calm, quiet and peaceful. This sacred space should be clean of clutter, tranquil, warm, and relaxing.  Playing soft music, lighting candles, burning incense or essential oils and being comfortable are all especially important in creating a Tantric environment.

Once you are in your prepared sacred space, sit on the bed, face each other, look into each other’s eyes, and simply breathe. You need to connect with each other’s rhythm.  Breathe in and out purposefully, paying attention to your lover’s breathing rhythm. As you continue to breathe together, you will become closer spiritually, more relaxed, and more in tune with each other. The more attuned you are, the more aware and connected you will become.

Tantric sex is not a race to the finish. For many couples love-making ends up feeling like a race to the finish post, with orgasm and ejaculation being the ultimate goal. Tantric sex however, is slow and purposeful. The idea is to not rush, to stay present and stay focused.

Tantric love-making involves harnessing all the sensory gateways, and so can involve touch, taste, smell, sound and sight.  Caressing, stroking, licking, eye gazing, whispering , touching and kissing are all great ways of heightening connection . You can take turns with a slow, seductive massage or simply sit and touch each other slowly. In tantra the focus of a lover’s body is not simply on the genitalia, it is on the whole of the body: ears, nose, neck, stomach, thighs, legs, chest, feet, etc. The goal is to become familiar, relaxed, and aroused by the whole body and for your partners whole body to become awakened and whilst you may wish to include a Lingam and Yoni massage as part of your lovemaking the central focus is not on the yoni or lingam.

There is no rush for penetration in Tantra; when you begin the actual sexual intercourse stage, it is important for the man to hold back ejaculation when he feels his orgasm impending. He should stop, breathe and then continue to pleasure his partner and himself. This not only builds a tremendous level of sexual energy, but it also develops self-control, heightens the emotional connection, and makes the final release more intense. As Tantric sex involves a total connection, as you are preparing to release your sexual tension, make sure to look deeply into your lover’s eyes, feel their breathing, and communicate your feelings. This is why tantric lovemaking often involves partners chests and hands touching.. When a couple is connected in this way, the orgasm that comes will be intense and will weave the couple together in close unity.
