THE SACRED ART OF YONI MASSAGE
Yoni (pronounced Yo-nee) is the Sanskrit word for the vagina and translates as ‘sacred cave’. In Tantra the yoni is a sacred part of the female body which must be respected and cared for. Mal Weeraratne teaches and performs yoni massages as part of his unique treatment called Tantric Journey and explains that when performed as a treatment the yoni massage is deeply healing and can remove trauma and stagnant emotions trapped within the body; but when performed between partners it is a sensuous form of intimacy that can build trust, intimacy and strengthen the connection emotionally and physically.
The purpose of a yoni massage is not to bring the woman to orgasm; instead it is to relax the woman and bring emotions to the surface and release them. Mal explains that the emotions that can emerge during a yoni massage can be anger, arousal, sadness, lethargy. He says “everything is possible and everything is allowed. The yoni massage is always the woman’s journey and my job is just to hold the space for her.’ He goes on to explain the when partners practice yoni massage they should do so ‘without expectation – the idea is simply to observe and experience. As you learn to master the Yoni Massage you will learn a great deal about female sexuality and your bond with your partner will increase.”
Before beginning a yoni massage, you should practice eye gazing, whilst engaging in deep, relaxed breathing. Both giver and receiver should remember to keep breathing, slowly and deeply whilst maintaining a relaxed and calm state during the massage. You must remember to remind the woman to keep breathing deeply if she forgets and starts breathing shallowly.
When you are both relaxed and comfortable, the woman lies on her back with one pillow under her head and another under her hips to elevate her pelvis. She bends her knees and opens her legs to expose her Yoni. Sit comfortably between her legs with your legs crossed. You may wish to sit on a pillow or cushion.
Begin by massaging other parts of her body to encourage her to relax. Breast massage is an excellent way to begin as the breasts are directly connected to the yoni. Gently, but firmly, massage her legs, thighs, stomach, breasts and arms before venturing towards the Yoni. The idea and intention should be to relax the woman and give her pleasure. Next, massage the pubic bone area and then move down to the inner thigh area. Do this motion at least nine times. Then, with the right hand (the right hand is used to balance the polarity of Tantra), apply a high-quality oil or lubricant (non–scented) to the mound of the Yoni, pouring just enough so that it drips down the outer lips and covers the outside of the Yoni.
Gently rub (using a touch that is gentle yet firm) the oil on the outer lips of the Yoni at least nine times. With the thumb and index finger, gently squeeze each lip of the Yoni, sliding the fingers up and down the entire length of each lip. Then, carefully repeat this process with each inner lip of the vagina varying the pressure – responding to the woman.
Next, gently stroke the clitoris in a circular motion, clockwise and counter-clockwise. Then, squeeze her clitoris between your thumb and index finger. Next, slowly and with great care, insert your middle finger into her Yoni. Very gently explore and massage the inside of the Yoni with your finger. Varying the speed and depth of your finger, feel inside the Yoni…listen carefully to your partner’s cues. With your palm pointing upward and your finger inside your partner’s Yoni, bend your finger to make contact with her G-spot, known as the “sacred spot” in Tantra. Be aware that this technique may evoke powerful and strong emotions….she may laugh, she may cry, she may orgasm. Just keep the breathing going and continue massaging for as long as she desires.
The massage should belong to the woman and creates a space for the woman to relax, allow her to relax and enjoy receiving without giving…it is one of the greatest gifts!
