Tantric Journey Holistic Healing - It's Science not Magic

When we talk about holistic healing or holistic therapies we are talking about a healing modality that treats the whole person: body, mind and spirit. It’s amazing how many times you hear holistic treatments referred to as alternative therapies in a manner that suggests they are almost rooted in folklore. But therapies that come under the banner of Holistic medicine are types of healing that consider the whole person — body, mind, spirit, and emotions and there really shouldn’t be an alternative to this, because if an imbalance occurs in a person, whether it be physical, emotional, or spiritual it can negatively affect their overall health.

So often people seek mainstream medical solutions for emotional problems and they are treated with talking therapies such as counselling; the problem is that emotions are not separate from a person’s physical body, indeed science has shown us that negative emotions are stored at cellular level in the body.

Even in today’s modern society where things such as aromatherapy, massage and reflexology are pretty common and very popular treatments, other alternative treatments and holistic remedies are still  treated with suspicion because they sound like some sort of hocus pocus when we’re looking for proven treatments for what ails us. We forget that many holistic healers often utilise herbal remedies, energy work and mindful techniques to encourage healing. Many of these methods are validated by science, instead of dismissing the unknown in favour of the latest over-the-counter remedy, it’s important that we do our own research and discover what science has to say about everything from reiki healing to Ayurvedic medicine to deep body therapy and even Tantra or Tao Bodywork.

If we’re open to learning about new ways to treat mental and physical symptoms, we may just find our overall, holistic health improves.  The term ‘Holistic’ comes from the Greek word holos, meaning ‘whole’ and whilst various holistic therapies have been effectively used for centuries, the scientific community today is now recognising the importance and value of holistic therapies and some treatments are even being offered on the NHS.

Holistic therapy is effective in addressing countless physical and psychological ailments, from muscular aches and pains to hormonal imbalances, sexual dysfunction and depression to improved sleep and mental clarity. Many individuals turn to holistic therapies after finding they are dissatisfied with the experience of talking therapies or underwhelmed by the results of conventional medicine; have found pharmaceutical drugs to be ineffective or have had adverse side effects of prescription medicines.

Holistic therapy is a completely natural and non-invasive treatment, suitable for all ages and genders which gently but effectively works to restore and maintain the body’s natural balance to encourage the body’s own self healing. Holistic therapy offers a more natural approach to body healing, although it can be used alongside mainstream medicines and treatments.

Whilst treatments such as reflexology, massage and acupuncture are now widely accepted, treatments such as Tantra, yoni massage and lingam massage are still far from achieving mainstream acceptance and recognition. Although, more celebrities and journalists are writing about subjects such as Tantra so perhaps it won’t be too much longer before such holistic therapies become more widely recognised.

Not all holistic healing is readily accepted as being a valid approach to dealing with physical or psychological symptoms. Indeed, some therapies such as Tantra, Tao and energy healing are often looked at as being the substance of folklore, myth, magic, and mystery. When we think of magic, we often conjure up ideas of cauldrons bubbling, wands and Harry Potter books and the areas of holistic health that we don’t completely understand simply get relegated to this realm of magic. The facts are that treatments such as Tantra are far from the realms of fantasy and gradually such healing modalities are finding science is gradually backing up their validity.

Perhaps its time we started to embrace holistic therapies that are lesser known, because after all aromatherapy was once thought of as pretty ‘way out’.
